The School of Media and Communication recently allotted significant funds to upgrade the ENCO audio playback system utilized in many of the Kuhlin Center facilities for production classes and the operation of the two campus radio stations Falcon Radio and WBGU 88.1 FM.
The upgrade included the replacement of six computer workstations and a network server that keeps all the individual stations connected to each other. Other components of the upgrade include a major software update and increased hard drive space to allow for our ever-growing library of music, production pieces, public service announcements, etc.
ENCO’s DAD (Digital Audio Delivery) is an industry-standard software offering tools for on-air talent during live broadcasts, but also massive production tools allowing users to record and edit content without the use of a third-party application.
The system also includes a programming component that assists student and community volunteers in programming content so that specific genres of music are heard at particular times of day, and to make sure we maintain control over that playback of the music library to ensure that WBGU and Falcon Radio are just as unique as we intend them to be.
