BGSU’s One Day online giving event is just around the corner and a handful of journalism alums have set out a challenge. If more than 50 people donate during the One Day, they will present a $5,000 gift to the Fund for the BG News, which supports all of Falcon Media (you can donate right now by clicking here). Here are the people behind the challenge gift:

Mizell Steward (’94): Looking back on a 35-year career in local and national news, I trace every success I have achieved to the foundation built for me through my experiences at Falcon Media. None of this – from my early days as a radio broadcaster and newspaper reporter to my work today building the future of local media – would have been possible without my journalism education at Bowling Green State University. We have an obligation to ensure the next generation has even greater opportunities than we had – and that is why I’m contributing a challenge gift for BGSU One Day. Won’t you join us?

Duane Pohlman (’87): I have achieved some of journalism’s highest honors but NONE of it would have been possible without the foundation of the immersive journalism education I received at Bowling Green State University. Now, it’s time to give to the next generation. I’m contributing to this challenge gift to raise money for Falcon Media to provide equipment and real-world opportunities to today’s students.  Please join us as we build a world-class media & journalism program!

Karl Smith (’87): I’ve been blessed to have my journalism career come full circle and place me right back where I learned everything that mattered. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to employ my experience and knowledge with tomorrow’s journalists but I have come to realize that more resources are needed. I’m hoping other fellow alumni agree and will help make them available.
Ellen (’85) and Ben Marrison (’85)
