By Caitlyn Petty | BG Falcon Media intern

After their many years of devoted time and hard work, our BG Falcon Media seniors are parting ways to continue their careers outside of Bowling Green State University (BGSU). These seniors have taken the time to deliver outstanding content and have helped to cover important events throughout the year like Homecoming, One Day, and many sport events. BG Falcon Media would not have been able to do it this academic year without our beloved seniors. We would like to take the time to recognize them before their departure into the professional world.

Steve Iwanek held the title of the Sports Content Director for Falcon Media Sports Network for the past two years. He has spent all four years in this organization and has helped to cover almost every sporting event this year. Steve advises, “The majority of us will only get four years of college to start on the pathway towards maximized human potential. Always be thankful for each day that is presented in front of you while you’re here. It goes by in a flash.”

Makena Flores is the Editor-in-Chief of the BG News. Although she joined BG Falcon Media a year ago, Makenna has helped to transform the organization. “Falcon Media has provided me with much experience and preparation for post-graduation. Apart from learning the mechanics of print news, it has taught me how to become an effective leader in the newsroom. I am most grateful to Karl Smith, for being a fantastic mentor during my journey, as well as Blake Pierce, the News Content Director, for always being by my side. I am thankful for having a great right-hand woman, Alivia Hartpence, and for my fantastic team of designers. I look forward to seeing where Falcon Media goes in the future.” said Makenna.

This year’s BG24 director is Olivia Ross, who has been involved in the organization for nearly three years. She states that, “That I have had a great time being involved with Falcon Media and have met so many amazing people along the way!”

Jack Ging has spent the last four years of his academic career being involved in BG Falcon Media, serving as Falcon Radio Operations Manager this year. Jack mentioned, “The best advice I can give to upcoming students is to take advantage of what the university has to offer! It’s much easier to build a resume/get valuable experience than you realize.”

Our final senior is Abby Gabe, who has been the graphic design intern with BG Falcon Media through the 2023-2024 academic year. She wanted to say that “”BG Falcon Media rules!”

Some of our other seniors include Blake Pierce (news content director), Kyle Nelson (senior designer), Abbie Knauss (designer), Jessi Oberski (BG24 executive producer), Claire Mitchell (multi-platform journalist), Ben Ferda (Live & Loud producer), and Karen Lumpkins (sports reporter).

As this school year ends, we want to thank these seniors and their hard work during their time at BGSU. This is not an easy task to balance schoolwork and their countless hours in Falcon Media. The organization would not have been as successful this year without their help. Congratulations to these seniors, BG Falcon Media looks forward to seeing you continue your career after college and watch you flourish in the professional world of Media.
