Harold Brown ’72 was elected the next president of The BG News Alumni Society at its Feb. 28 board meeting.

The retired journalist spent over four decades in the news business, including many years as a reporter and editor at the Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune. He’s been an active member of the BGNAS board as a helpful mentor to BG Falcon Media students, particularly those covering the Bowling Green city beat.

Brown takes over for Tyler Buchanan ’13, who had served as president since mid-2023 and will remain on the board.

“It’s been a great honor to give back to the journalism department as president,” Buchanan said. “Hal has done a great job working with student reporters and I’m confident with his leadership we’ll find new ways to connect with the program in the coming years.”

“I want to thank Tyler for his leadership and everyone for their continuing interest. Don’t forget that BG One Day is coming up later this month to support BG Falcon Media,” Brown said. “Also, if you have time, I hope you will consider attending the School of Mass Communication Awards Friday, April 10. You will be proud of the work the students continue to do at BGSU.”

The BG News Alumni Society was founded in 2002 to provide a support network for students and help alumni reconnect. Members remain busy throughout the year with student mentorship, classroom visits, a scholarship fund and attending Homecoming and other university events.
